Poker protocol

It's also important to realize that casino rules are vastly different from those that you employ in a friendly family game. If these rules are ignored or violated it may cost you a very valuable pot.
The chief advantage to playing in a casino is that the house provides a dealer. You don't have to worry about Uncle Joe dealing from the bottom of the deck or some card shark dealing "second", saving the best card on top for himself and dealing the cards underneath to the other players.

It will cost you a little to play in a casino. Because there is no casino advantage in poker, the house charges players for providing the space and the personnel to offer an honest game.
In most casinos, the house will take a "rake" from each pot. A rake is a percentage of the pot that is checked by the dealer after every round of betting.
This will vary between five and ten per cent, and most casinos put a limit on how much money will be withdrawn from each pot.
In some casinos, though, the house charges a "seat rental". This is usually an hourly fee that progresses upwards with the limits.
Unlike poker played at home, casino poker doesn't necessarily require an "ante" or bet prior to receiving the initial cards.

In Texas hold'em, a "blind" is used. A blind is when one or sometimes two players put up a small ante before a round begins. The blind is rotated in clockwise direction around the table.
When betting commences, you must bet in a prescribed sequence depending upon the rules of the specific game. The person with the high hand will make a bet in sevenncard stud. The player to his left then must "call" (match that bet), "raise" (increase the bet), or "fold" (throw his cards in and withdraw from the hand).
A player who acts out of turn can influence the play of the others, so it is important to take your cue from the dealer as to the correct time to make your bet.
In Texas hold' em, the first "live" player to the left of the "dealer" makes the initial wager. A live player is one who has not folded on a previous round.
And while the casino uses a dealer at Texas hold' em, each round a player is designated as the "dealer" so that the deal will start with a different player to the immediate left of that designed dealer. The "dealer" is indicated by a "button" in hold'em.

Roulette placing the bets

The American system is different to the European.
America first. It is generally operated by two dealers.
One takes all the bets, spins the ball, announces the number, takes all the losers and pays the winners.
The second dealer, in America, called a "mucker", re-stacks the chips and pushes the winning bets out to the first dealer who delivers them to the players.
Frequently, however, only one dealer handles all the action at the roulette table.

Once you understand how and where to make your bets, you begin by sitting down at the table and buying chips. Please note that roulette is the only game in the casino that uses different, non-value chips. Although they are called nonvalue, that doesn't mean they donì represent money; they do.
In this case, non-value means that they are worthIess at any other gaming table.
Check the minimums before sitting down. For example, if you're playing a £2.50 minimum table, you. must place at least £2.50 for every bet you make on the outside.
For instance, if you are betting red, odd and the high bet (19-36), you must place £2.50 in chips on each bet. On the inside bets, however, your bets must only total £2.50.
Whether you bet five numbers straight up, four numbers straight up and one split, or two comers, two split and one straight up, all your bets must total £2.50 or more. Often, the minimun will be higher.

Depending upon the minimum and your buy in, the dealer will ask you what value you want your chips to be.
For a £2.50 game, the minimum value for chips is usually £1. For a £1 minimum game, chips will probably be worth 50 pence. lt's generally your choice, and will be determined by how many bets you want to make on each spin.
If you are unsure of the procedures and the minimum bets at any table, simply ask the dealer, and he'll be glad to explain the casinos policy.

These procedures vary in the European game.
American dealers sweep the layout with their hands and arms, European croupiers use a long stick, or "rake", to sweep in all bets. And, in Europe, roulette games do not use non-value chips.
All players use the standard casino chips which can cause great confusion when there are a multitude of bets on the layout.
If you're playing in Europe, keep an eye on your bets and be certain how much you've bet.
Bets are paid from the outside in. The dealer will pay the be furthest away from him and work in, until he gets to tì inside bets, which get paid last.

Pai gow poker

Pai Gow Poker is an American version of the old Chinese game of
Pai Gow.
Actually, it is a blending of Pai Gow and poker that, in
its earliest form, probably dates back to the mid-180Os.
In 1986,a modern version of Pai Gow Poker got its start in California card rooms, and in 1987, the casino version (in which the house may act as banker) as introduced in Las Vegas.
A few years later, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission approved Pai Gow Poker. Since then, it has become one of the fastest-growing games in American casinos.
The original game of Pai Gow, which uses special dominos, is symbolic, igmatic, and difficult to learn. Pai Gow Poker, on the other hand, usees a regular deck of cards and is based on standard poker hands.
It comparatively easy to learn and play our casinos wouldn't have any other way.

Pai Gow Poker is played on a blackjack-like table with six player potions. It uses a standard 52-card deck plus one joker. With a couple exceptions, winning hands are almost the same as standard poker ands.
That is where the similarity to poker ends. You only play against e banker's hand, and you have only one opportunity to place a bet.
Consequently, the bluffing and normal playing strategies that are used in regular poker games are of no value.
The game begins after the banker is selected and each player puts up initial bet. The selection procedure for the banker, who may be the ealer or one of the players, will be explained later.
Seven cards are then dealt to everyone at the table, including the dealer.
You now hav to split your seven cards into two separate hands: a two card hand ani a five card hand.
You win if both hands beat both of the banker's hands. If one hand beats the banker and the other doesn't, it is considered a push and no money changes hands.
Hands that are exactly alike are called cop, hands and are won by the banker. Although the house already ha the edge (unless a player is the banker), to be certain it can never los money, it assesses a 5% commission on all winning bets.

Pai Gow Poker moves at a leisurely pace. Originally, the dealing pro cess was somewhat involved and convoluted, and many players wer very slow and deliberate in deciding how to split their hands.
Today however, most casinos have fìgured out ways to speed up the game and most players are experienced enough to arrange their hands quickly.
Your bankroll will fluctuate less than in other games because all thi bets are even money, and almost half the hands are pushes.

Keno

The game of Keno originated in China over 800 years ago and was used as a means of financing the construction of the Great Wall.
It was brought to the United States by the Chinese railroad workers in the mid-180Os. The modern version using ping-pong-like balls to determine the winning numbers was developed in Nevada.
Keno is a game of pure luck. Except for knowing how to mark the tickets correctly, it requires no skill.
Its appeal is similar to the state lotteries: for a small investment" you have a chance of winning a very big payoff.
Although most players are aware of the high house edge, they are usually not aware of the astronomical odds against winning the top jackpots.
In each game of keno, twenty out of a total of eighty numbers are randomly selected, and the winning numbers are posted on keno fiashboards throughout the casino.
When you play the game, your goal is to correctly guess as many of those twenty numbers as possible.
The more numbers you get right, the bigger the payoff.
Keno payoffs vary from casino to casino, as does the house edge. in fact, within a single casino, the house edge varies with the type of game and with the total amount of numbers selected.
Thus, the only useful strategy is to find the lowest house edge and the best return for your money.

Progressive Keno

The basic appeal of keno, that you might win big for a relatively small investment, is exemplified in progressive keno.
If you want to take that idea to its extreme, find a casino that offers progressive keno.
The only difficulty is that your chances of winning the big prize are almost illusory.
In most progressive keno games, you have to catch 9 out of 9 or 10 out of 10 numbers to win the progressive jackpot.
In order to catch 9 out of 9, you have to buck odds of 1 in 1.38 million, and 10 out of 10 is even worse at odds of 1 in 8.9 million.
If you do manage to beat those odds, the payoff for a $5 wager may only be $300,000 or $400,000, and sometimes a lot less.
Of course, there are also smaller payoffs for catching fewer numbers, but you get those in regular keno as well.
The house edge in a progressive game is a function of the size of the jackpot.
If you really want to play the progressive game, at least make the house percentage calculations as described above, and only play when the progressive jackpot gets very high and the house edge gets very low.

Texas hold em

This is the best-known version of poker played in casinos, largeiy because it is the form played in the televised global tournaments in both the UK and the US.
The object of the game is for each player to make the best poker hand from two cards dealt to him face down (hole cards) and five 'community' cards dealt face up in the centre of the table during play.
Any combination is possible in achieving this - that is, players are not obliged to use their hole cards.

The role of the dealer is significant for the order of betting in this game, so although the casino provides a dealer to distribute the cards the table also has a 'notional' dealer, indicated by a disc or button that passes anticiockwise around the table to each player in turn with each deal.
The casino dealer always shuffles the cards and burns the top card before play.
Before any cards are dealt, the two players to the left of the notional dealer each stake a blind bet. The first player makes a "small blind": a percentage of the minimum bet - usually a half or a third.
The second player makes a "big blind": the minimum bet.

Order of play
Following the posting, or pushing to the centre of the tabie, of the blind bets, the casino dealer deals each player two cards face down, and betting begins.

First betting interval
Each player examines his cards and betting starts with the player to the left of the big blind. He must call, raise, or fold, but is not allowed to check because the blind bets have been made.
As the betting goes around the table, players 1 and 2 must also call, raise, or fold. Both will have to raise their stakes to the current level of betting in order to call, and add more to raise.
With more than one player raising on his turn, the betting may go around the table several times before all the bets of those players remaining in are equal, at which point the betting interval ends.
